The South Puget Sound area of Washington, about a 30 minute drive south from Seattle, includes a portion of the southern Olympic Peninsula. The Gateway to the Olympic Peninsula, and centered in the South Sound area is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that spans the Narrows portion of the Puget Sound from the bustling city of Tacoma to a growing city of Gig Harbor where our South Sound Properties Team is located. Included in the South Sound area are the counties of Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Kitsap, and South King County. There are many small, medium, and large size towns and communities that make up this region. To name a few, you have Olympia the capitol of Washington with suburbs of Lacey and Shelton. Tacoma the states 3rd largest city and a Pacific west coast port with suburbs of Lakewood, Parkland, Spanaway, University Place, and Fife. Puyallup at the base of the Cascade Mountain range and gateway to Mount Rainier, the lower 48's tallest mountain with suburbs of Orting, Milton and Graham. Federal Way with its sprawling neighborhoods including suburbs of Milton and Edgewood. Gig Harbor a fishing port and neighborhood community with suburbs of Fox Island, Key Peninsula, and southern Kitsap County. Port Orchard and Bremerton, cities facing each other on Sinclair Inlet - a major west coast ship building port. The many diverse communities of the South Sound boast historic downtown areas, fairs including the well known Puyallup Fair each September, indoor and outdoor theatre's, museums including the Glass Museum in Tacoma and the brand new Maritime Museum in Gig Harbor, Puget Sound waters, lakes and rivers including boating and fishing, and winter ski areas including snow parks. Just about 15 minutes from the South Sound City of Gig Harbor you’ll find the community of Olalla, Washington.  It is bordered on the east side by Puget Sound’s Colvos Passage that separates the Olympic Peninsula from Vashion Island.  You will find a good supply of residential horse farms, some fortunate enough to also have water front or water and mountain views.  There’s also horse back riding available at Pets Galore Horse Rides, and many other stables.

Olalla has a  tranquil small town feel, because there isn’t much town to it.  But it’s within minutes of major shopping centered between  Gig Harbor and Port Orchard.

Our South Sound Properties Team would love to show you around the Olalla area.  You’re sure to fall in love with it – even if you don’t ride a horse.

It’s official.  It’s 2010 South Puget Sound Style.   The fireworks went off without a hitch to ring in the New Year of 2010 from the Space Needle in Seattle Center.  They were stunning.  From the New York Times Square Ball Drop to the South Sound Space Needle fireworks - the country rang in the new year of 2010 from the Atlanctic Coast to the Pacific Coast.

Boys & Girls Club Opening in Top 10 for Gig Harbor 2009

Our South Sound Properties Real Estate Team is proud to have worked on the fund raising for the newly opened Gig Harbor Boys & Girls Center in October.  It was fun to be part of that process, and then see it become a reality.  It is a fantastic facility located near Gig Harbor High and Henderson Bay High School – pretty much dead center in greater Gig Harbor.

Sunday mornings are my favorite now because our HCC (Harbor Christian Center) church services were moved to the new gym at this facility until a new church is built.  I now get to experience the new club and see what it has to offer every week.

Here’s a recent article from the Gig Harbor Peninsula Gateway listing the new Boys and Girls club as No. 2 of the top 10 Gig Harbor events of 2009.

Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula-area youths got a new place to play, mingle and learn when the Boys & Girls Club of South Puget Sound, with the help of Jim and Carolyn Milgard, the Cheney family many others, opened its Gig Harbor branch in October on Skansie Avenue.

The building features a commercial kitchen, a full-size gym and a HOPE Center, deemed to be the blueprint of Boys & Girls clubs of the future.

The HOPE Center — Home of Opportunity, Possibility and Empowerment — offers space for public functions, special events and classes. The space will offer services to all age groups and income levels.

A much-anticipated senior center found a home at the club, where seniors can participate in activities and use the entire club when the children are not present.

A teen center offers a pool table, foosball and a big-screen TV. A performing arts room features hardwood floors and an exercise bar, and it will be able to host classes like hip-hop, aerobics and ballroom dancing.

Partners include the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Peninsula Athletic Association.

A unique addition at the club is the Lindquist Dental Center for Children, which will offer dental services for children up to 18 years old.

Gig Harbor Mayor Chuck Hunter said the center will provide a safe place for people to leave their children.

“Taking care of our youth is the most important thing that can be done,” he said. “Kids have outside things that are bombarding them. This center will help those kids to have a better shot.”
